The Drifter, Orbit Drift's starting ship

Orbit Drift

Gravity is the game.

A tiny ship, an infinite universe, and one control. Drift, slingshot and survive for as long as your nerve holds.

How it plays
How it plays

Steer. Everything else is physics.

The ship always thrusts forward — you only steer. Planets, ringed giants, stars and black holes bend your path, and flying well means using that pull rather than fighting it.

Score comes from skill, not from grinding: near-misses scaled by how close the pass got, distance survived, and a combo multiplier that near-misses chain and damage breaks. Touch a star or a black hole and the attempt is over. Everything else costs health, so a run is a series of decisions about what you can afford to clip.

Features

An infinite universe, built one tile at a time

Gravity is the game

Every body rolls its own mass and pull, so two planets the same size can drag very differently. Slingshots, near-misses and tight orbits are the whole skill ceiling.

Endless and procedural

Asteroids, moons, planets, ringed giants, stars and the rare black hole, generated from a seed as you fly. Moons are the only bodies that move — and the only moving gravity wells.

Asteroid fields

A field is a place you choose to enter or go around. The rocks shove back and slow you down, and ploughing through a whole one costs more than a full hull of health.

One control

Hold either side of the screen to steer. No boost, no buttons to learn — the difficulty is all in the line you pick.

The garage

Nuts and bolts spawn out in the universe and bank across runs. Spend them on new hulls — each ship has its own ability, not just a new coat of paint.

The junkyard

Spend banked scrap on a rummage through the ship junkyard after a run, dig around the heap, and see what you uncover.

Screenshots

Captures land as the rebuild firms up

The rebuild is playable but still moving under our feet — the art, the HUD and the flight model all change week to week. Rather than post shots that will be wrong by the time you read this, here is what each one will show.

Roadmap

The flight path, one milestone at a time

Six waypoints between a blank Godot project and a launch. The ship marks where the rebuild actually is — solid line behind it is flying, dashed ahead is planned.

  1. Core flight & gravity

One steer axis, constant thrust, and an N-body pull you fly with rather than against.

    Done
  2. Endless universe

Seeded tiles spawning asteroids, moons, planets, ringed giants, stars and the rare black hole.

    Done
  3. Damage & attempts

Health, three attempts at a run, and a summary that says what each go was worth.

    Done
  4. Pickups, ships & the garage

Coins, power-ups, three hulls with abilities of their own, and the screens to spend in.

    Done
  5. The ship, marking how far along the roadmap the rebuild has flown

    Economy & balance

Coins as the currency, bolts as repairs, and flight numbers that survive a real play test.

    In flight
  6. Services & launch

Leaderboards, rewarded ads and IAP behind interfaces, then iOS and Android.

A rebuild is on the way

The original Orbit Drift has been on the App Store since 2018. What you see above is the ground-up rebuild now in development for iOS and Android. When it lands, it replaces the original right here.
